One of the reasons I have always loved The Church, is because there always seems to be something to celebrate throughout the year. Occasionally, we have our times of rest (which we need), and it seems there is not as much going on. But the majority of the time there is celebration. I think with the busyness of all of our lives, it is a wonderful blessing to know there are ways we can celebrate and connect in the body of Christ. Of course, with that celebration there always seems to be a good share of work that many have to do behind the scenes. It reminds me of Jesus at the wedding feast of Cana. I think Jesus understood celebration as a need within the community. That is why, even though he told his mother it was not his time, he was willing to turn water into wine, and to further the wedding celebration (John 2: 1-11). I know one thing for a fact about celebrations within the Church. When God is welcomed into our celebration, it is truly joyful!
As we approach the holidays and special occasions within the church this year, I hope we all find joy and spiritual celebration which we can share with one another and our community. I know there will be times it will be a lot of work, but I believe the payoff is the blessing of sharing in the celebration as the family God.
